We stand with you, Sanjiv Bhatt!

It is often said that if the state were communally neutral, or scrupulous enough to protect the lives of all its citizens, there would be no large-scale communal violence. This argument is true, but only trivially so. Gujarat violence plumbed new depths of horror and brutality and an embarrassment for anyone who believes in the pluralistic core of Indian nationhood, a view enshrined in India’s constitution, a view that gives an equal place to all religions in the country, privileging none.

And then much to our shame and embarrassment, we hear about formal resolutions passed by RSS, “Let the minorities understand that their real safety lies in the goodwill of the majority.” Laws alone, the RSS implied, as it always has, cannot protect India’s minorities.

Narendra Modi nurtures such strong aversion towards “a community” which accounts for over 15% of Indian population. Asked about the violence, Narendra Modi quoted Newton’s third law ‘every action has an equal and opposite reaction’ – to virtually justify what was happening.

“Relief camps are actually child-making factories. Those who keep on multiplying the population, should be taught a lesson,” said Modi while addressing a rally in Mehsana district during his gaurav yatra.

There are enough and more evidences shouting aloud to be heard to be considered and to be admitted in the court of law for the trial of Narendra Damodar Das Modi!

To quote former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee: “My one message to the chief minister is that he should follow raj dharma. A ruler should not make any discrimination between his subjects on the basis of caste, creed and religion. I do not know what face I will show them (the world) now after the shameful events in Gujarat.”

Doesn’t this statement speak volumes about Narendra Modi’s involvement in the 2002 Carnage? It was a one sided carnage and not a riot in usual sense carried out by the instructions

Gujarat is one of the states in India, where police was instructed not to abide by their legally mandated duty. So knowing this why are we letting politics supercede the law? Why are we letting officers like Sanjiv Bhatt, Rahul Sharma , Vinod Mal and others, become a victim of the wrath of this arrogant and revengeful leader called Narendra Modi?

The vindictive stand of Modi is so stark in his warped action against officer Bhatt! Bhatt has dared to risk his “all” to bring to the common people the misdeeds of this man, who is hiding behind development and economic growth, which in reality is all farce.

Sanjiv Bhatt is an officer who has been so forthright in his stand for truth and justice! He is privy to a lot more information on Gujarat riots and murder of BJP leader Haren Pandya, but every effort to silence him is on, by the vindictive government of Gujarat.

Bhatt’s arrest comes two days after he filed an affidavit in the Gujarat high court linking Modi and former home minister Amit Shah with Pandy’s murder.
Modi’s brigade is pointing finger on Bhatt’s credibility and confirm his action as a pawn for the Modi-baiters. They say that he has not produced evidence that can establish his plea to implicate Modi and his cohorts.

We have reasons to believe that Bhatt has sufficient documentary proof to do so. He will come out with it before an appropriate forum. Bhatt said that SIT was working hand in glove with the Gujarat Government as it leaked the information shared by Bhatt with the higher echelons of the Government of Gujarat. After the strong allegations against the SIT of hobnobbing with the Modi administration, the civil society has got enough reasons to be skeptical of SIT’s judgments on Modi.

I admire Mrs. Shweta Bhatt, for the way she handled this crisis. Raids after raids was done in her house while the husband was arrested. What was all the more shocking that the Bhatt’s junior officer who came to raid his house allegedly misbehaved with her. She was not allowed to meet her husband, so much and much more.

I almost cried, and I am sure many like me would have, the day I heard her on TV saying that “Sanjiv is being kept in a dingy, filthy and, stinking room in the city crime branch lock-up after he was arrested on September 30. She further alleged that he was kept in the room with hardened criminals without food and water.

Any other woman would have reeled under such anxiety, but Mrs. Bhatt stood firm grounds with her husband, supporting him in his fight! The rule of the law prevailed and Sanjiv Bhatt was released on bail on October 17th , to face fresh charges, cases being slapped on him on an everyday basis.

Unaffected and composed Officer Bhatt seem to be mentally prepared this and much more of such harassment, taking this as a beginning of the big fight ahead! Describing his stay in the jail as his sabbatical, he says he has come out with a stronger resolve to continue with his fight!

He knows that the vindictive Modi Government would not let him live in peace, but he is determined , all charged up to continue his fight as he believes that the cause he is fighting for is bigger than him!

I salute you Officer Bhatt, I salute your resolve! Despite standing the risk of getting eliminated by the revengeful Modi and his cohorts, you stand firm! In his words he has decided to tread new roads, armed with nothing but his own vision and convictions

Why can’t we stand with this officer without questioning his credibility, Where are the Muslim clerics, offering caps and scarfs to Narendra Modi? Why are they not seen standing with Officer Bhatt? Bhatt who is a hope to thousands of riot victims!

We are terribly missing Team Anna on this so very important issue. Mr. Hazare very humbly and with all due respect we want you to take your movement on a different tangent. Fast if you have to, but do it to initiate proceedings against leaders like Modi who is aspiring to become the Prime Minister of a secular nation with no tolerance for the largest minority.

Mr. Hazare lets stand for India against Communalism, let’s stand with the officer who has initiated this movement! Hope and pray that more sane and rational minds get together to stand with Sanjiv Bhatt. And as Officer Bhatt would say

Sirf hungaama khada karna mera maksad nahi/ Saari koshish hai ke ye soorat badalni chaahiye! Mere seene mein nahi to tere seene mein sahi/ Ho kahin bhi aag lekin aag jalni chaahiye! (The purpose is not to create just noise only; instead every effort is aimed to bring about some change in the situation.
