Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today said the party respected the Telangana sentiment which re-elected all those who had resigned for sake of Telangana state, In a response to the bye poll outcome in which all party candidates lost, TDP said the party gained moral victory as it had achieved record voting percentage in spite of heaviest odds in campaigning and selection of proper candidates. The party had notched up respectable votes of 48,641 in Station Ghanpur, 35,287 in Akollapur and 24,288 in Adilabad in Telagnana in spite of party’s senior leaders defecting over to TRS along with their followers, the party claimed.
The YSR congress could not achieve the huge majorities it had claimed and ended up with marginal gain of just 23,000.’All these show that nobody can write off the TDP – either with money power or emotionally , a senior party leader said. The TDP gained better voting in other parts of Telangana in spite of the fact the party organisation had suffered in Nagarkurnool and Kamareddy, the leader said ‘We were able to inform the people that congress was the mainh culprit in delaying Telangana and not out party. TDP has a strong cadre base among the BCs, SC and ST and the present set back is just an out come diinformation campaign that we are against Telagnana. The YSR congress is any way and any day likely to merge with the Congress and that TDP alone is effective alternative to congress in the state, the party added. UNI
