“We got rid of communal riots in the state:” Guj govt

Gandhinagar, June 30: Gujarat government on Monday claimed in the assembly that it has got rid of the communal riots in the state.

During his budget speech in the assembly today, State Finance Minister Vajubhai Vala said, “We have successfully got rid of terrorism and communal riots in the state.”

However, Chief Minister Narendra Modi is often blamed for the 2002 post-Godhra communal riots in Gujarat which had claimed over 1200 human lives.

The claim made by the state government in the budget speech today surprised everyone including the opposition party. The opposition members have ridiculed the government’s claim on the riots and the terrorism.

“The Modi government has no moral right to utter a single word on communal riots because the people of the country know the reality. Gujarat has seen the worst kind of communal riots during his rule,” Congress leader Arjun Modhvadia, said.

“Chief Minister Modi should not forget what the Supreme Court, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, had said Gujarat was burning,” he added.

Modi was also reminded of his ‘Rajdharma’ by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he said.
