We Are Committed For 50 Percent Quota For Women In Local Bodies:CM

The Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has made it clear today that the Government was committed to provide 50 per cent reservation for women in local body elections.

The Chief Minister, who was on tour of this district as part of his ‘Indiramma baata’ programme, today had an interaction with the women self-help group members at the Andhra University conference hall here. He assured the women on this occasion that 1.20 lakh more members would be included in the ‘Abhaya hastham’ scheme.

Kiran Kumar Reddy also opened the Rajiv Smruthi (memorial) building in the Beach road here. The Chief Minister has also inaugurated a project which would provide 24 hours water supply to Central Visakha.

Speaking at a public meeting at Markapuram as part of Indiramma baata programme, the Chief Minister said that women of the state have brought pride to the entire country, by creating a confidence among the Bankers that the loans advanced to them would be repaid promptly. He said following introduction of Indira Kranthi programme, women got benefited in the State. Women were getting nearly Rs.13,000 crores loans from the Banks and this was a matter of pride for the State.

Kiran Kumar Reddy was happy that the Banks were expressing confidence that if loans were given to women, they would promptly repay the same. He further said that the State Government was making all-out efforts to see that women were empowered economically. (NSS
