WCL officials booked for coal theft worth Rs 5 crore

Nagpur, January 24: CBI officials here today carried out raids on office and residential premises of six top officers of the PSU Western Coalfields Limited and booked them for coal theft worth over Rs five crore.

Acting on information provided by the WCL, the CBI sleuths found coal worth Rs 2.79 crore and Rs 2.50 crore missing from the stock of Rajur and Majhri mines under WCL, CBI Superintendent of Police John Thomas told PTI.

About 50 per cent of coal was missing from both the coal mines stock upon verification.

The officers booked sub-area manager Yogendra Tiwari, mines manager Gautam Rai and senior surveyor Yunus Qureshi of Rajur and sub-area manager Lallan Giri, mines manager D A Ragit and senior surveyor Kuber Singh of Majhri.
