Hyderabad, April 04: India’s World Cup victory celebrations turned tragic for an engineering student who was knocked down by a four-wheeler at Mehdipatnam while returning home after participating in the festivities late last night.
The deceased, Shakeel (21), was a resident of Kranti Nagar in Mehdipatnam and studying third year engineering in Ayaan College of Engineering and Technology at Moinabad.
Soon after the Indian team’s victory over Sri Lanka in the World Cup final last night, Shakeel along with his friends, Razwi and Shahnawaz, went to Mehdipatnam to take part in the victory celebrations.
They participated in the celebrations till late in the night and after that, the trio began to walk back to their locality. As they reached Amba theatre, a Tata Magic vehicle coming at a high speed hit Shakeel. The youngster suffered severe injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital where he died this morning, Asif Nagar police said.
Police registered a case against the accused driver of the vehicle and launched a search to nab him.
