Hyderabad: Waqf Board Chairman Mohammed Saleem, along with the cops, visited Oontwadi graveyard located at Chudibazaar and removed animals from the graveyard. Thus ending the desecration of graveyard continued since long. Nearly 100 horses were removed from the graveyard who were tied on the graves.
Following repeated complaints regarding violation of graveyard sanctity, Waqf Board Chairman Mohammed Saleem, along with Chief Executive Officer Mannan Farooqui and police personnel, made a surprise visit to the graveyard. They were shocked to find horses tied on the graveyards. The chairman called the owners of the horses and expressed anger over them. He warned them that if the horses are not removed till evening a police case will be booked against them.
The Oontwadi graveyard is notified in the Official Gazette of Waqf Board no 19A, dated 9.5.1985, at serial No.188. It is a Waqf burial ground spread over 3,300 square yards. Waqf Board is the mutavalli of the graveyard.
Taking advantage of the absence of an administrative Committee, as many as 50 horses were being tied to the graves. The owners of the animals had broken a portion of the compound wall to create an access route for themselves. Mohammed Saleem sanctioned Rs. 1 lakh for the fencing of graveyard and asked the inspector auditor to carry out the work on war footing.
