WB to offer jobs to families of 2 soldiers who died in Uri: Mamata

Kolkata: The West Bengal government would offer jobs and financial assistance of Rs. two lakh each to the families of the two jawans from the state killed in the terrorist attacks in Uri, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday.

“Generally the Centre does it… We’ve done it for CRPFs in the past. On humanitarian ground, we will offer jobs of home guards to someone in the family and Rs. two lakh each to the families of two jawans Gangadhar Dolui and Biswajit Ghorai as special cases,” Ms Banerjee told reporters at state secretariat Nabanna.

Two of her cabinet ministers — Arup Roy and Rajiv Banerjee — were present at Dolui’s residence in Howrah district’s Jagatballavpur, she said.

“My ministers were present at Dolui’s residence at Jagatballavpur,” she said, adding that gun salute was given.

In one of the deadliest attacks on the army in the recent years, 18 soldiers were killed and over 20 others injured as heavily armed suspected Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists, stormed an army base at Uri town in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district in the wee hours on Sunday.
