Kolkata, October 16: Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Partha Chatterjee, and three Trinamool Congress MLAs were arrested today after they went on a dharna before the chief minister’s office at the state secretariat demanding Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s arrest.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special branch-I) Partha Sarathi Ghosh said they were arrested and taken to the Lalbazar police headquarters.
Earlier, Chatterjee and the TC MLAs went on a dharna demanding the arrest of the chief minister and Home Secretary, Ardhendu Sen, who they claimed had ordered ‘indiscriminate’ arrest of TC supporters in Hooghly district ‘to protect CPI(M) workers indulging in violence’.
The arrests followed soon after Bhattacharjee was escorted into Writers’ Buildings by Special Protection Group commandos and personnel of the Rapid Action Force.
The commandos and the RAF formed a human wall to shield the chief minister as he stepped into the state secretariat. .
