Kolkata, April 16: With the effectiveness of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) being tested at Chhattisgarh for deployment in Maoist-hit areas, the West Bengal Government would explore the possibility of using the drones against the ultras in the state.
The success of UAVs in Chhattisgarh could prompt the West Bengal government to take up a trial run in the state, Director General of Police (DGP) Bhupinder Singh said today.
A senior state government official was in Chhattisgarh to watch the testing of the UAVs which were taking place at the behest of the Union Home ministry.
Meanwhile, the state government transferred IG (Special) EFR Benoy Krishna Chakraborty, who earned wrath of his superiors for publicly criticising the West Midnapore SP for the Maoist attack on the Silda camp that left 24 EFR personnel dead on February 15.
