New Delhi :Water supply was hit in several parts of the national capital following a sudden rise in ammonia levels in Yamuna river that affected operations at the Wazirabad and Chandrawal water treatment plants.
“As a result of a sudden rise in the ammonia level in the Yamuna, supply at Wazirabad pond and production at Wazirabad and Chandrawal plants has been stopped,” said a senior Delhi Jal Board (DJB) official.
“Water supply will not be available till the morning of February 16 to residents in the NDMC area and in north, north-west and central Delhi along with parts of west and south Delhi,” the official added.
Water tankers will be available for supply to the affected areas at DJB helpline 1916 and water emergency numbers.
Among the affected areas are Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid, Civil Lines, Subhash Park, Mukherjee Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Adarsh Nagar, Model Town, Jahangir Puri, Wazirpur Industrial area, Punjabi
Bagh, Gulabi Bagh, Hindu Rao hospital area, Jhandewalan, Motia Khan, Pahar Ganj, Karol Bagh, Old Rajinder Nagar, Naya Bazar, East and West Patel Nagar, Malka Ganj and adjoining areas.
The matter of pollutants entering the river through the Panipat drain has been taken up with authorities in Haryana, added the officer.
