Instead of ensuring continuous water supply for drinking purposes, Water Board is planning to increase water charges. It claims that it is bearing extra burden in order to supply drinking water from Krishna Water Project – III. It is getting 45 MGD water from Krishna which causes additional expenses. In order to meet these expenses Water Board is planning to collect Rs. 10 – Rs. 150 as service charges from the consumers. In addition to Service Charges, Water Board is contemplating to collect Rs. 45 towards water pumping charges from every water connections. When asked that there are 100 overhead water tanks in GHMC area which store water from various sources. Water Board claims that it charges Rs. 3 per Kl of water which includes 33% sewerage cess. From Krishna River, there was a proposal to get 90 MGD water but now only 45 MGD water is being supplied for which Water Board is incurring a deficit of Rs. 3-5 crore. Water Board spends Rs. 8 crore for 8 pumps out of which only 4 are functioning.
