The Australian world champion water skier, who had sustained serious injuries during a high-speed (120 km/h) river race in Sydney, has died after her family decided to turn off the life support system.
Sarah Teelow fell heavily her ski on the Hawkesbury River in the opening moments of the 112 km race Bridge to Bridge Water Ski Classic on Sunday after she hit a wake, following which she went into cardiac arrest and was flown into a hospital, where she was placed on life support.
According to Telegraph.com.au, Teelow, who sustained serious spinal and head injuries in the accident, died on Monday after her life support system was switched off. Tributes from the close-knit water skiing community were posted on the social media after news of the death of Teelow, who was crowned champion in the Formula 2 category at the World Waterski Racing Championships in Spain just two months ago, broke. Teelow leaves behind her father Christopher, her mother Tania, who is also a world champion water skier, and her brother Jarrod, the report added. (ANI)
