New Delhi, October 20: The Supreme Court today asked the high-powered committee constituted for doing scientific research for solving water crisis in the country to explore the possibility of involving foreign experts to find inexpensive methods of converting saline water into fresh water.
“Are you consulting foreign experts? You have to do scientific research to find out inexpensive method of converting salt water into fresh water. You can take the help of foreign scientists,” a Bench comprising Justices Markandey Katju and A K Ganguly said.
The Bench, which was hearing a PIL on water shortage in the country, extended the tenure of the committee headed by the Secretary, Union Ministry of Science and Technology as its chairman, and Secretary, Union Ministry of Water Resources as a member, apart from scientists, for three months and asked them to continue their work on a war footing.
