New Delhi, August 10: Agitated over the prevailing water crisis in the area, local residents of Paharganj in central Delhi today took to the streets and blocked Deshbandhu Gupta Road for more than three hours, resulting in major traffic snarls in the area and causing inconvenience to the office-goers.
The agitation started at 0930 hrs when the residents irked over shortage of water supply decided to block the road. They complained that all their pleas to the local councillor and the Delhi Jal Board regarding the acute water shortage in the area went unheard, so they were left with no other option but to block the roads to vent their frustration.
The agitators also locked the main entrance gate of the local Delhi Jal Board office and said they would unlock it only when water supply in their area would be restored.
Police were called in but the agitators paid no heed to anybody’s request and refused to call off their agitation. Later, a meeting of the agitators, police and the officials of the Delhi Jal Board was convened to resolve the deadlock.
