Hyderabad, December 09: All steps would be taken to protect the heritage structure of Raw Water Conduit from Osmansagar to Asifnagar Filter Beds, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), Managing Director, M T Krishna Babu said.
The 80-year-old water conduit carries raw water from Osmansagar to Asifnagar filter beds is being encroached by local residents at various point who are laying roads on the conduit leading to the damage and obstruction in the free flow of raw water.
Krishna Babu along with officials inspected the raw conduit as well as road widening works at Kuosera Colony, Ambedkarnagar, Laxmimnagar, Shaikpet, Manikonda and Puppalguda areas asked the HMWS&SB and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials to take precautionary measures to protect the heritage structure of raw water conduit.
Wherever such encroachments have come up, he directed GHMC officials to remove them and provide culverts as approach roads to the housing colonies and apartment and commercial complexes which have developed along the raw water conduit at Manikonda and Puppalguda villages.
He also instructed the officials to provide two culverts at Ambedkarnagar, Laxminagar for residents to cross the conduit. A team comprising of GHMC and HMWS&SB has been formed to identify the need to construct culverts so as to protect conduit that was built by Nizam rulers. As of now they have identified about 11 points where culverts have to be constructed.
Additional Commissioner (Works), Dhananjeya Reddy, GHMC Chief Engineers, Panduranga Rao and R Dhan Singh and senior Water Board members were also present.
