Is water board awaiting another Bholakpur tragedy?

Complaint of contaminated water supplied in various areas of twin cities Hyderabad and Secunderabad has become the order of the day. When complained it is said by the water board officials ‘who is using the water supplied for drinking?’ While the fact is poor people still use government supplied water for drinking; even most of the middle class people use the water supplied by water board for drinking purpose. Ironically the water board officials think that city denizens use bottled water for drinking hence it makes no difference for them if they supply contaminated water.

Recently complaint has been received regarding contaminated water supply in Karwan. Similar complaints were also received from Kalapather and Tadbun areas. Despite this the criminal silence of the water board indicates that the water board officials wait for another ‘Bholakpur’.

It has been told that the situation arises as the sewage has entered the drinking water supply line but thinking that it would need large scale project to deal with the situation, the officials think it better to close the eyes to the problem.

It must be recalled that a few years ago 14 people had died after consuming contaminated drinking water in Bholakpur.
