Shimla, February 17: Residents of the Queen of Hills have to shell out more money now for water with Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) today deciding to hike water tariff for both domestic and commercial consumers.
A meeting of the counsellors decided to hike water tariff for domestic consumers from the existing Rs 4.24 per thousand litres to Rs 6.82, SMC Mayor Madhu Sood told reporters.
There are about 15,000 domestic water consumers under SMC at present.
Likewise, the corporation also decided to increase rate for commercial users of water who will now have to pay Rs 39 per thousand litres of water in place of Rs 29.26.
