Watchman kills wife’s ex-lover with stone

Mumbai, August 31: A 32-year-old man allegedly crushed the head of a 30-year-old man with a grinding stone while he was sleeping at Sulemani Chawl in Dadar (west) on Friday morning. The victim Manoj Kewat who hailed from Uttar Pradesh succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment atP6-3.TIM on Saturday.

Investigators on suspicion picked up Arjun Kewat from the same locality on Saturday night. During interrogation, he broke down and revealed that he killed Manoj Kewat as he suspected him of having an extra-marital affair with his wife.

The accused, Arjun, employed as a security guard with a private security company, has been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC. He has been remanded to police custody till September 4. According to the police, a week ago Manoj came to Mumbai in search of a job and stayed with his elder sister in the locality. He use to do odd jobs to meet his daily expenses. He used to sleep outside his sister’s house.

On Friday morning, people from the locality heard the victim’s screams. They saw Manoj lying in a pool of blood. They rushed him to KEM Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, said assistant commissioner of police (Dadar division) Madhukar Sankhe.

Sankhe said that on inspecting the injury, they realised that the victim was hit with a hard object. The police questioned the locals including Arjun.

According to Dadar senior inspector Ashok Hunde, Arjun said that 15 years ago he got married and soon after the marriage, he found that his wife had an affair with the victim when she was in school. Arjun even found letters that were sent to his wife by the victim before the marriage. He got annoyed when he found out that Manoj had come to Mumbai and stayed in the same locality where he was residing. So he planned to kill him, Hunde said.
