New Delhi: This year’s Miss Universe pageant had an unexpected ending, as host Steve Harvey mistakenly named the wrong winner on live television.
Steve Harvey, the host of Miss Universe pageant event, declared Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez the new Miss Universe but soon realized he misread his cue cards as Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, was the actual winner and therefore returned to the stage to apologize.
“A stunned Alonzo Wurtzbach was then escorted to center stage and the tiarra that Gutierrez was wearing was removed and placed on Miss Philippines’ head just before the program ended,” Newsday reported.
