Was murdered Barc scientist a sex maniac?

Mumbai, February 25: Police probe reveals gigolos visited his house very often Was Mahadevan Padmanabhan Iyer, the 46-year-old senior scientist from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (Barc), who was found murdered, a sex maniac?

Well, numerous packs of condoms, pornographic videos, photographs of men and a proof that gigolos visited his house very often at least point to the fact that Iyer indeed had a very colourful life.

This assumption has been validated by the initial investigations. Police have confirmed that Iyer was a homosexual who used to call male sex workers on regular basis. In fact, he had established sexual relationships with most of the men he was acquainted with, the police said.

Iyer’s decomposed body was found in his Anand Bhuvan Apartment at the Barc quarters, next to Breach Candy Hospital, late on Tuesday night. He was murdered in his apartment and his body had been lying inside the flat for two days, the police said.

According to an officer from the Gamdevi police station, the watchmen of the building, where Iyer stayed for the past seven years, have revealed that the murdered scientist used to call gigolos to his house. “They told us that only men used to visit Iyer’s house. Also, he used to prefer well-built and good-looking men for sex,” the officer said.

The police are trying to trace the men whose photographs were found at Iyer’s flat, as the police suspect the murderer could be a gigolo.

The police have also found several packets of condoms in the flat. “We have found several condoms in his cupboard, bed, pockets and many other places in the house,” the officer said, adding that the police have also found pornographic video material and a stack of postcard-sized photographs of foreign male models.
The police suspect that Iyer was killed exactly before having sex, as a pack of condoms, with two condoms taken out of it, was found near Iyer’s body on the bed.

“We believe he had been staying alone so that he could invite gigolos and other sex partners at his place without inconvenience. His family was also aware of his proximity with men,” the officer said, adding that the police are getting call details of the landline number of Iyer.

Sanjay V Mohite, deputy commissioner of police (zone-II), said: “Police have picked two fingerprints from a glass found in the house and will be comparing those with his known colleagues.”
