Chandigarh, July 03: A local court on Thursday issued bailable warrants against actress Mona Singh and the CEO of Colors channel after they failed to appear in the court in a case of hurting religious sentiments.
Judicial Magistrate Dr Rajnish issued the bailable warrants. In April this year, the court had declined their application, seeking exemption from appearance in court.
Last year, Arvind Thakur, chairman of a local NGO, and VHP’s Punjab unit spokesperson Vijay Singh Bhardwaj had moved court against the them and cricketer Harbhajan Singh.
They had demanded criminal proceedings against Harbhajan and Mona Singh for their alleged derogatory depiction of Hindu deities on a reality TV show in October.
Harbhajan and Mona had featured as Ravana and Sita on the popular dance show Ek Khiladi Ek Hasina.
The show drew criticism from Hindu groups and public censure from the apex Sikh clergy, which said the show was “offensive and a mockery of religious deities”. The show was telecast on October 4, 2008.
Later, Harbhajan had obtained a stay order from the High Court regarding appearing in the court.
