Johannesburg : Australia have been dealt with a major injury blow as opener David Warner has been ruled out of the rest of the ongoing Caribbean tri- series due to a fractured finger.
The 29-year-old suffered the injury during the side’s 36-run win over South Africa at Warner Park in Basseterre, St. Kitts on Saturday.
Warner was declared `man of the match` in that game for his brilliant 109-run knock, which also moved Australia to the top of the three-team table.
Confirming the news, Australian team doctor Geoffrey Verrall said that Warner might require surgery for a broken left index finger, adding he hopes to see the opener making a return in next two to six weeks, Sport24 reported.
Warner admitted he is feeling quite disappointed to be sidelined in the middle of the tri-nation series, but added that the break would provide him with some time to freshen up after a tiring trips to New Zealand, South Africa and India.
Australia will play their next match against hosts West Indies at the same venue on Monday. (ANI)
