Hyderabad: Openers David Warner and Shikar Dhawan’s rock solid opening stand of 90 runs paved way for Sunrisers Hyderabad’s easy 5-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab in the IPL match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here today.
Opting to field first after winning the toss, Sunrisers Hyderabad restricted Kings XI Punjab to 143/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Hyderabad’s Bangladeshi import Mustafizur Rahman exhibited a brilliant spell of bowling, conceding just nine runs of his quota of four overs.
For Kings XI Punjab, Shaun Marsh top scored with 40 runs while Axar Patel slammed 36 of 17 balls, including three sixes and a four, during the slog overs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s chase was led by their skipper David Warner, whose stroke filled 59 included seven fours and three sixes. Shikar Dhawan made a valuable 45 off 44 deliveries as Sunrisers Hyderabad reached the target with two overs and one ball to spare.
This win takes Sunrisers Hyderabad to fourth place in the points table with three wins of five games, while Kings XI Punjab continues to languish at the bottom of the table with just one win of its five games. (ANI)
