Warangal woman dies of swine flu in city

Hyderabad, July 19: One more person died of swine flu in the city on Sunday taking the toll to eight since its outbreak this monsoon. The condition of three more patients at the Gandhi and some private hospitals is said to be critical.

At least 20 influenza A (H1N1) cases have been reported from various districts and about a 100 viral infection cases.

The district medical and health officials confirmed that 24-year-old Ranjita of Kundaaram village i n Lingaala Ghanapuram mandal of Warangal district died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city. Earlier, another woman from the city died of swine flu while six other deaths were reported in various districts.

Dr S V Prasad, superintendent of the AP Government Chest Hospital, said swine flu was rapidly spreading in border areas, especially in Visakhapatnam, Medak, Karimnagar, Warangal and Mahboobnagar districts, as people were carrying it from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Orissa.

However, there are no fresh swine flu cases in Hyderabad and its suburban localities this monsoon.

Suspect cases are being screened at the special centres at Osmania General Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, King Koti hospital, Vanasthalipuram, Kondapur, ESI, Tarnaka RTC Hospital, the Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM) and Railway hospital.
