Warangal city was in the list of “Akarshan cities” released by Union minister for urban development M Venkaiah Naidu.
Venkaiah Naidu today released second list of Smart Cities under which the selected cities would be developed with the assistance of the Central government. Besides Warangal, Amaravati, Tiruvananthpuram, Patna, Simla, Naya Raypur and Itanagar are in the second list.
Stating that the Centre has taken measures to protect and rejuvenate the culture of cities, the Union minister detailed the achievements, performance and various welfare programs of the BJP-led NDA government which completed two years of ruling the country. Basic facilities have been improved in towns and cities, he added. In the first phase, 20 cities under Akarshan scheme and 493 Amrut towns have been selected. As part of 100 Akarshan cities, so far 98 have been identified and a five year plan has been drawn up to develop the cities under Smart scheme, he said. (NSS)
