New Delhi, Aug.12 : Though the Rajya Sabha had to be adjourned for day on Wednesday due repeated disruptions by the opposition, the Standing Committee examining the Waqf Properties(Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Bill submitted its report.
The committee recommended that the Bill should also cover unauthorised occupation by public and private institutions, in addition to individuals. It also suggested that the Bill specify the time period within which the tribunal is to dispose of appeals.
The committee scrutinizing the National Waterways Bill alsopresented its report. The committee observed that declaring 101 new National Waterways through this legislation would reduce the time taking procedure of declaring waterways through individual legislations.
However, the committee also pointed out that many of the proposed national waterways, as contained in the Schedule of the Bill, do not have enough water levels throughout the year as they are rain-fed rivers and must be looked into.
Additionally, the report of the Joint Committee on Offices of Profit was also presented in Parliament today.
The Lok Sabha took up discussion on an Adjournment Motion moved by the opposition, regarding the ‘action taken by the government on the reported involvement and admission of the Union Minister for assistance given to a fugitive’. The Finance Minister replied to the debate after members from across parties spoke.
Adjournment Motions is a procedure available to members to draw the attention of the government and criticise its decision in an urgent matter.
The house has since adjourned till Thursday. (ANI)
