Waqf building lease scandal, matter referred to CM

Hyderabad, January 31: The matter of a waqf building located at Abids, the prime locality of the city, given on paltry rent, has been referred to chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy. The government is said to have sought legal opinion on the matter. Minority Welfare Minister Ahmedullah also met chief minister and clarified the matter.

It has been told that Ahmedullah apprised chief minister that the waqf board has given the building on lease on the recommendation of an influential personality related to Congress high command. However he could not clarify why the mode of lease was not adopted.

It must be recalled that the Minority Welfare Minister on Saturday had stayed the decision to give building on lease and had directed to issue show cause notice to the board. However changing his stand the very next day, he started lobbying to take back the file and issued directions to the officials in this connection.

Now whatever decision is taken by the waqf board would be according to opinion of legal cell.

Meanwhile chief minister has directed Minority Welfare minister to ask the state High Court to allow one month time, for formation of minority commission.
