New Delhi, October 05: A few Hindu organisations are believed to have come forward in support of the Sunni Central Waqf Board (SCWB) in the Ayodhya title suit. They would also become interveners in the appeal to be moved in the Supreme Court against the Allahabad High Court’s recent verdict.
While members of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) have already expressed their intention to move a separate plea in the apex court, Zafaryab Jilani claimed on Monday that various Hindu organisations had offered their legal and moral support to the Waqf board. The AIMPLB is the highest Muslim body in the country dealing with the Shariah law and Jilani is the legal adviser of both the boards.
“The purpose behind involving the personal law board in the case is to field a battery of lawyers to plead our case and convince the court that since the Babri dispute is a legal issue, any judgment should come in the light of evidences and law,” Jilani said.
“Since it is an authority on Islamic law, its involvement will also help us in telling the court that while a Ram temple is related to the faith of millions of Hindus, the Babri Masjid is related to the faith of millions of Muslims,” he added.
Jilani said: “Some Hindu organisations have also contacted us and stressed that they were not ready to let the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) communalise the atmosphere.”
