Wanted man shot dead in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, July 07: A man wanted in over 20 criminal cases, including those of murder and abduction was shot down by the police here Monday, officials said.

“Rakesh Kewat, a close associate of bandit Ghanshyam Kewat, was killed in a gun battle that continued for about an hour in the Gudumba locality in Lucknow,” Deputy Inspector General (DIG) N.K. Srivastava told reporters.

“While we managed to gun down Rakesh Kewat, one of his aides managed to escape. Two pistols and several live cartridges were recovered from Rakesh Kewat’s possession,” he added.

According to police, over 20 criminal cases, including of murder, abduction and other serious crimes were pending against Rakesh Kewat.

Last month, after battling over 400 heavily armed police personnel for more than 50 hours in Uttar Pradesh’s Chitrakoot district, bandit Ghanshyam Kewat was shot dead after he tried to escape by jumping off the roof of the house under siege.
