Wanted man gunned down in encounter

Ghaziabad, May 16: A man wanted in connection with a bank robbery and carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head was today shot dead by the police in a shootout.

Ajay alias Akash was going in a car towards Delhi and asked to stop by the police near Pilakhuwa town at around about 12.30 pm but he tried to escape by opening fire on the policemen, Senior Superintendent of Police Raghubir Lal said.

The SSP said an exchange of fire took place and Ajay was hit by two bullets. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Police recovered a 9mm pistol from his possession.

The SSP said 18 cases of murder, loot, dacoity, kidnapping among others were registered in different police station in Ghaziabad, Noida, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, Delhi and Haryana against him.
