Wanted in Delhi for murder, caught in Mumbai

Mumbai, March 06: Accused of killing a traffic constable, a Delhi autorickshaw driver fled to Mumbai 14 days ago. But Rayees Rahitulla Khan’s (33) luck ran out on Friday.

At 3 am, JJ Marg police were conducting a nakabandi at Teli Mohalla in Byculla when they noticed a “suspicious-looking man”. “He was trying to avoid us.

When he saw that we were watching him, he started running. We caught him and questioned him, but his answers were unsatisfactory,” said Assistant Police Inspector S. Bansode.

“During questioning, Khan said he was an autorickshaw driver in Delhi. He confessed that 14 day ago he had got into a fight with traffic police constable Dinesh P. and in a fit of rage killed him.

” said Inspector Santosh Bagve of the JJ Marg police station. Khan, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, fled to Mumbai to his brother for help.

“Khan was returning to his brother’s place at Khar after visiting relatives in Byculla when we apprehended him,” added Bagve. The JJ Marg police contacted the DG control and found out that Khan was wanted for murder by the Khajura Khas police in Delhi.

“Last year, Khan had been arrested for killing his wife and son in Delhi. He was out on bail when he murdered the traffic constable,” Sub-Inspector Punkaj Sharma of the Khajura Khas police station.
