Walmart creates 30,000 new jobs in Maharashtra

Mumbai: American Multinational retailing corporation Walmart is all set to open 15 stores in Maharashtra with an investment of Rs 900 crores.

The stores will create an employment for 30,000 people in the state.

The Maharashtra industries department has entered into an agreement with Wallmart after signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of state CM Devendra Fadanvis.

“MoU signed in presence of CM @Dev_Fadnavis between @Walmart & Industries Department, GoM for 15 modern wholesale cash & carry stores in Maharashtra. This wholesale cash & carry stores by @walmartindia will bring an investment of ₹900 crore and generate 30,000 jobs in Maharashtra” tweeted authorities from the CM’s office.

The meeting was also attended by Pravin Pardeshi, Additional Chief Secretary in Maharashtra CM’s office, Sunil Porwal, additional chief secretary for industries, Harshdeep Kamble, Development Commissioner and Krish Iyer Walmart’s India head.

Currently, Wallmart has only stores in Maharashtra, one in Aurangabad (Marathwada) and Amravati (Vidarbha). Previously, the Retail giant in April had announced its plans to open 50 stores across India.

The state skill development and entrepreneurship has signed Letter of Understanding (LoU) with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Godrej and Boyce for women empowerment on Wednesday in the presence of CM Fadnavis, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar along with Godrej’s chairman Pheroza Godrej and Aafreen Siddiqui of UNDP, sources reported.
