Walk for a cause

Hyderabad, February 04: The Apollo Cancer Hospital in the city organised a cancer awareness programme — “Prevent Cancer- Start now!”, on the eve of World Cancer Day, which is on February 4. DK Aruna, minister for public relations, Sumanth, film actor, Shilpa Reddy, former beauty pageant winner, Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Sangita Reddy, executive director, Apollo Hospitals Group and Vijay Anand Reddy, director, Apollo Cancer Hospital joined over two hundred school children as part of this campaign.

The Cancer Awareness campaign was kicked off by a quiz organsed for kids on cancer by Jayesh Ranjan at KBR Park. Shilpa Reddy flagged off the Cancer walk from KBR Park to Apollo Health City. The walk that saw participation by school children was aimed at creating awareness about the right kind of diet and exercise. Child cancer survivors presented a colourful dance performance at Apollo Cancer Hospital. The guests alongwith the children pledged to follow a healthy lifestyle.

Speaking on the occasion, DK Aruna said,”Creating awareness about cancer at a young age is of paramount importance to reduce incidence of the disease,” continuing, “Child cancer survivors here are shining examples of winning over cancer and by their dance performance they have spread the message that one can lead a normal life after getting treated with cancer.” “I am going to act in a movie, whose director is a cancer survivor and his wife whom he met at a hospital is a cancer survivor too. The experienced specialists at Apollo Cancer Hospital and the advanced technology have made it possible to win over cancer,” said Sumanth, adding that he would not sign a film that portrayed cancer as a life-threatening disease.
