London : After guiding Wales to a comfortable 3-0 win over Russia in Euro 2016 clash, star striker Gareth Bale has admitted that the victory was `one of the greatest nights` of his career.
Bale, who also scored for his country in the previous two games, followed Aaron Ramsey and Neil Taylor onto the score sheet to ensure Chris Coleman’s men finish at the top of Group B.
While doing so, Bale also broke the 58-year-old record of Ivor Allchurch for most goals at major tournaments in quick time.
“It’s hard to describe. [It was] an unbelievable occasion and it’s definitely right up there. I think, for the pressure of the game, the way we played was probably one of the best team performances I’ve been involved in,” Bale was quoted as saying by goal.com.
The Real Madrid forward admitted that his side had learnt a lesson from its last match defeat against England and, therefore, worked upon their weaknesses to tear apart Russia in Toulouse.
“We said after the England game that we needed to keep the ball a lot better and we did that tonight,” he added.
Wales, who emerge as the winners of the Group B, will now have to wait for the rest of the groups to be concluded before discovering their opponents for the last 16 round.(ANI)
