Wakf Board takes Anwar-ul-Uloom College into direct management

The Andhra Pradesh State Wakf Board on Thursday took the Anwar-ul-Uloom Group of Colleges located at Mallepally into its direct management.

The decision was taken after the Central Crime Station of Hyderabad City Police issued an FIR against the Anwar-ul-Uloom management. Speaking to media persons at Haj House, Wakf Board Special Officer Shaik Mohammad Iqbal informed that the Anwar-ul-Uloom management had approached the High Court against the show cause notices issued by Wakf Board. The AU management had complained to the High Court that the Wakf Board did not provide some information sought under the RTI with regard to AU institutions. However, the High Court did not give any relief to the AU management.

Therefore, the Wakf Board got an FIR issued against the AU management and took the institution under its direct management. Iqbal assured that the decision would not affect the functioning of educational institutions or students’ academic year.

Iqbal also informed that Anwar-ul-Uloom properties located at Mallepally were notified as Wakf in the Gazette notification issued on 30th August, 1984. Originally, the Governing Body of AU had passed a resolution in 1955 making the institution a Wakf property. As per the orders of the Supreme Court, an institution declared as Wakf remains so and its status could not be changed if no objection is raised within one year after the issuing of Gazette notification.

Iqbal said that the AU management had been trying to delay the process by seeking some or the other information which it already had.

He also informed that action has been taken against the management of Mumtaz Yar-ud-Dowla Trust for alleged mismanagement of funds. As against the income of Rs 1.47 crore, the Trust had paid only Rs 1.46 lakh towards Wakf fund. Similarly, there is no account of shares held by the Trust in several companies including Tata Steel. He said the management also needs to explain the income and other financial transactions of institutions including Mumtaz Engineering College and Mumtaz Degree College. (INN)
