Wakf Board to develop SEZ, Haj House near RGIA

Hyderabad, February 3: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday instructed Revenue officials to hand over documents of a 30 acre plot of land, belonging to the Muslim Wakf Board which had earlier been acquired by the government, to its rightful owner.

Former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy had earlier agreed to release 80 acres of the original 3,500 acres of land belonging to the Wakf Board after the High Court had passed orders.

YSR had ordered 50 acres of land to be released to the Wakf Board. The 30 acres are part of the deal struck by YSR. The Wakf Boad will construct a Haj House on this piece of land, which is near the International Airport.

The development of a proposed SEZ on the remaining part of the 80 acres, after some land to be set aside for the Haj House, would now be taken up by the Wakf Board.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy, who had earlier in the day toured Barkas and Hafiz Baba Nagar as part of the Racha Banda programme, announced that Rs 20 crore would be released to the beleaguered Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority so that it can take up the pending welfare works.

He said that the ‘real Hyderabad’ is in the old city and its beautification cannot be stopped.

The Chief Minister instructed Hyderabad Collector Natarajan Gulzar to identify a plot of land so that the campus of the National Academy of Construction could be set up in the Old City.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy also ordered an inquiry into the prison riot which shocked the state at the Cherlapally Jail on Monday. He said that prompt action would be taken against those found guilty.

The Chief Minister also revealed that about 2.2 lakh Muslim students have availed the scholarships, amounting to Rs 340 crore.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to ensure that the development works earmarked to be carried out during the 100-day programme are completed on schedule. He pointed out that Rs 2000 crore has been set aside to carry out the works.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy said that the CBI investigation into Makkah Masjid blasts revealed that it was the handiwork of a Hindu terror group. He dismissed earlier versions which had pinned the blame on Muslims for the blast which occurred on May 18, 2007.

The Chief Minister promised that all the Muslim youth who were accused for their alleged complicity in the blast would be given financial assistance.

The Chief Minister also ordered the release of Rs one crore for the government Community Hospital at Barkas.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy said that the Barkas ward in the GHMC would be developed as a ‘model ward’.
