Hyderabad, December 02: Upset over the increasing political interference by some ministers and legislators in managing the activities of the state wakf board, the board, chairman Iliyas Sait on Monday submitted his resignation to chief minister K Rosaiah.
Though he said that he was quitting on health grounds, board sources claim that Illiyas had taken this decision because the minister for major industries
, K Laxminarayana and Congress MLA from Guntur (east), Mastan Vali were not allowing him to function in free manner since last year.
Recalling one such incident, he said, the board had passed a resolution last month strongly condemning the assault and abusive language used by Mastan Vali against Iliyas at a meeting
. Copy of the resolution has already been sent to the Centre and state governments urging them to take action against the MLA.
Since the state government had so far not initiated any action against the MLA, Sait decided to quit the post, sources added. Sait was elected board chairman on December 29, 2008.
