Wakf Amendment Bill, A threat to wakf properties

Hyderabad, June 29: A consultative meeting of Muslim was organized to consider various sections of Wakf Amendment Bill by Madina Education Society and Muslim Think Tank. Mr. Nayeemullah Shareef told that under the revised Wakf Act, wakf properties could now be sold out with ease, given on lease or allotted for developmental purposes.

Due to a lacunen in the act, all the properties registered under wakf donated by Rajas and Maharajan in the past will be excluded from wakf lists. According to Sachar Committee Report, there are nearly 65 lakh registered properties exist in India whereas unregistered properties are nearly 6 lakh. As per the new act, all the unregistered properties will be removed from the control of Wakf Boards.

Which means that many properties in villages which could not be registered earlier by the villagers on account of their ignorance of Wakf Act, will now be removed from the purview of the wakf act. Mr. Arifuddin told that due to inconsistency and negligence of the Muslim Society, our issues are dumped in cold storage. He told that if wakf properties are to be protected, there is a need to have a full fledged Commissioner of Wakfs with executive powers.

Our ministers and politicians had played a major role in destroying wakf properties. These people with their verbal orders either sell wakf properties or usurp them for their own use or in some cases allow others to have illegal possessions. In Visakhapatnam, there was a wakf property of 5,000 acres of land and the mosque had 1,500 acres of land. All this land was allotted to corporate sectors with the kind patronage of the ministers. In the same way the property belonging to Dargah Hazrath Husain Shah Wali has given to corporate sectors and Lanco Hills. Some land was allotted to Maulana Azad National Urdu University.

Mr. Hamid Mohammed Khan, President of MPJ (Movement for Peace and Justice) pointed out that Rajiv Gandhi Ariport situated at Shamsabad has 300 acres of wakf land. He informed the gathering that the wakf act is being amended to benefit the corporate sector in which there is a provision to reserve 76% share for the private & corporate sector whereas Wakf Board will have only 24% share in all such Wakf properties which will be acquired for developmental purposes.
