Wahiuddin Khan to get Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavna Award

New Delhi, August 09: Maulana Wahiduddin Khan will be given the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhawana Award for his contribution towards the promotion of communal harmony, peace and goodwill. A release issued by the Advisory committee of the Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award, AICC, said that Khan will be given the award for his “outstanding contribution towards the promotion of communal harmony, peace and goodwill”.

The award, which was instituted to commemorate the lasting contribution made by the former Prime Minister, carries a citation and a cash award of Rs five lakhs. It will be given on August 20, the birthday of Rajiv Gandhi.

Former recepients of the award include Mother Teresa, shenai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan, Grameen Bank founder Mohd Yunus of Bangladesh, Hiteswar Saikia (former Assam Chief Minister) and Subhadra Joshi (jointly), Lata Mangeshkar, Sunil Dutt, Jagan Nath Kaul, Dilip Kumar and author Kapila Vatsyayan. Other recipients are civil society activists Teesta Setalvad and Harsh Mander (jointly), S N Subbarao, Swami Agnivesh and Madari Moideen (jointly), former President K R Narayanan, Nirmala Deshpande, Hem Dutta, N Radhakrishnan and Gautam Bhai.
