VP Ansari stresses on ‘Grow in India’ programme to transform Agriculture

New Delhi: Vice President Hamid Ansari on Saturday emphasized the need for putting in place a ‘ Grow in India’ programme so as to transform the socio-economic fabric of the agriculture sector.

Delivering the key note address at a seminar on “Public Investment and Subsidies on Agriculture Upliftment of Agrarian Economy” in Hyderabad, the Vice President said the government should take bold steps to materialize the idea behind the programme.

“This would help in removing the deficiencies in our agriculture forming. A strong political will and common consensus is required to make the programme successful,” he added.

He further said that simultaneously social and economic problems have to be redressed as the government is attempting to strengthen the rural agrarian sector.

“The incidents of farmers’ suicides are a matter of concern and it shows the stress and the agriculture sector is subjected to, it is the increased investments and the use of modern technology rather than the utilization of subsidies that will enable us to reach our targets,” he added. (ANI)
