Ranchi, December 18: The rejection of the Maoist’s poll boycott call in Jharkhand was reflected in the huge turnout in the rebel strongholds with seven of the sixteen seats, that went for elections today, recording over 60 per cent voting.
According to EC sources, the assembly constituencies are: Hussainabad 60 per cent, Barkatha 63, Chatra 61, Chaibasa 61, Bhawanathpur 63, Garwah 62 and Simaria 62.
While polling in six other seats recorded 55 or above percentage, over 50 per cent voters used their franchise in three constituencies.
Only Chhatarpur with 48 per cent went below the 50 per cent mark.
About 75,000 personnel guarded the polling process today with at least ten choppers engaged in surveillance through the day.
