Voters refuse to exercise franchise till their problems solved

The residents of Roshanuddowla basti in Hastinapur on Tuesday bluntly refused to go to the polling station to cast votes until their long pending civic problems were solved. With their stubborn attitude, polling process in the locality remained suspended.
With the 2000-odd voters boycotted polling booths, the election officials and contesting candidates were in a quandary. When they said they would not participate in the polling till their civic problems were solved, the local revenue divisional officer rushed to the area and held talks with the residents for two hours. The residents bemoaned that the officials concerned were not visiting the area to solve their problems and they were facing severe hardship in procuring drinking water. They also made it clear that they would not give up their stir. However, they later agreed to go to the polling stations only after the RDO made a categorical assurance that their problems would be solved at the earliest. (NSS)
