Voter cards to be delivered to new voters free of cost

Hyderabad: Chief Electoral Officer Dr Rajat Kumar today made it clear that the Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) or voter cards will be delivered to the newly enrolled voters free of cost at their door-step.

However, the existing voters having old cards will need to pay and that too only Rs 25, at Mee Seva Center to get their EPIC. He said the Election Commission received a spate of complaints that an amount of Rs 100 was being collected at Mee Seva centers to deliver EPIC and it was an “illegal collection”.

Dr Rajat Kumar clarified that those who enrolled themselves as voters in the past, would need to pay only Rs 25 at Mee Seva centers to get the EPIC. He asked the voters to lodge a complaint using helpline 1950, if any one at Mee Seva centers demanded and collected additional amount and warned severe action would be taken by the Election Commission against those found guilty.
