Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s daughter, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Wednesday said she was seeking votes not for her mother, but to preserve the nation’s pluralism.
“Today our ethos and our culture, which believes in unity among all, is under threat, and it is you who must preserve it. I am not seeking vote for Sonia Gandhi, I want you to cast a vote so that the country’s pluralism remains intact,” Priyanka said at a public meeting here.
Priyanka said the Congress has always talked of taking everyone with itself and ensuring their growth. She charged the opposition BJP without naming its leaders of practicing negative politics that believes in dividing the country in order to win this election.
She remarked that there has been a lot of changes from now and before which she could easily see and added that her mother had worked for the last ten years to bring noticeable changes.
“Sonia Gandhi is with you and she has worked for the last ten years with you. Earlier, when I had come I saw few villages having electricity. Now, in contrast, there is not a single village without electricity poles and solar lights. An AIIMS-like hospital is set to be opened soon. Many such works have happened in the last ten years. Development work never stops. Sonia Gandhi’s work on developing this area is still left and she will deliver on it,” Priyanka added.
Priyanka was confident that Sonia Gandhi will win from this place and also told the people that this election was a fight between two ideologies.
“I have no doubt that Sonia Gandhi will win it from here. In this election, you have seen how the standards of the poll campaign have gone down. It is your duty to see what kind of political discourse is practiced. You must see that the politicians should only talk about job creation. Now you can see these days that election is being fought on two ideologies. Congress’ ideologies are for empowering the people. That’s why several rights like Right to Education, Right to Information, Right to Food, MGNREGA have been passed and few more are on the pipeline in our manifesto. While the opposition only talks about one person who they say will give solutions for all your problems and that all powers must be centered around him. Hence, you can very well understand what they believe in,” Priyanka Gandhi remarked. (ANI)
