Siliguri WB: Claiming that the national capital is virtually becoming unmanageable in terms of civic amenities, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday said that people should vote to create a world-class city in Delhi and not in terms of political bickering.
CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury told ANI the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election is a ‘big battle for the future of Delhi’.
“The MCD election is a big battle for the future of Delhi. It is not a political battle between the BJP, Congress or the AAP. Yes, the political parties are there in the fray, the Left is also there in the fray. The point is that Delhi has become a city that has virtually becoming unmanageable in terms of your civic amenities,” he said.
“This MCD election is very important in terms of creating a world-class city in Delhi and people should vote on that behalf and not in terms of political bickering that is now being seen. Interest of Delhi should be the main job of the people of Delhi,” he added.
The polling for the three Municipal Corporations of Delhi began at 8 a.m. today and will end at 5:30 p.m. Over 2,500 candidates are in the fray.
Over 1.3 crore people are eligible to exercise their voting rights and of them more than 1.1 lakh are first-time voters. More than 2,500 candidates are in the fray.
The civic polls will witness a triangular contest involving three major parties – the AAP, BJP and the Congress. Interestingly, None of the Above (NOTA) option has been made available for the first time in MCD elections. (ANI)
