Mounting pressure for removal of Meghalaya Chief Minister DD Lapang, rebel Congress legislators today faxed a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi reiterating their demand.
Altogether 14 dissident legislators signed the letter, which sought an immediate change of leadership in Meghalaya.
Significantly, the letter was faxed at a time when the Chief Minister is camping in New Delhi to resolve the political crisis in the state.
”The party leaders had assured us that our demand for a change of leadership will be looked into after Easter. Therefore, the letter is to remind the AICC of their assurance,” a dissident Congress Legislator told.
At least 15 of the 28 Congress MLAs in the 60-member House had demanded Mr Lapang’s removal for his ”poor performance”.
