Vishwaroopam row: Hassan thanks Jayalalithaa for coming forward and offering help

Expressing his gratitude towards Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa for coming forward on the issue of banning his film ‘Vishwaroopam’, veteran actor and director Kamal Hassan on Thursday said that he is touched by the overwhelming support he is getting from his fans, film fraternity and media.

“The way my fans, friends from film fraternity and media stood by me, is very touching. I don’t know how to thank all of you. It’s an request to India, media, my Muslim brothers, Christian and Sikh friends that we have lot more to do to take the country forward, but this kind of approach is not going to take us anywhere,” said Hassan while addressing a press conference here.

Hassan also thanked Jayalalithaa for offering a clarification on the state government decision to ban the film.

“Now, the Chief Minister has come forward and offered help, I will not move to the
Supreme Court,” said Hassan.

Earlier in the day, Jayalalithaa had promised every help to the superstar to overcome all the problems related to his film Vishwaroopam provided he sat down and settled the issue with Muslim leaders amicably.

Haasan also clarified that his threat to leave the state or country was a sudden outburst of emotion.

Vishwaroopam was due to release Jan 25, but was banned following objections from certain Muslim groups, who claimed that the film portrayed their community in a bad light. (ANI)
