Visas issued only 120 days prior to start of course

Hyderabad, March 28: I attended my visa interview on January 19 and my case has been put under Section 221(g). Now, the Consulate asked me for a deferred I-20 and I have already sent it. But my case is still under processing. Can you please tell me how much time it will take to get my visa?

If the consular officer refuses your case under Section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, it means your visa application was not complete or it requires further administrative processing and cannot be expedited.

We cannot predict how long this process will take as it varies based on the individual circumstances.

If our processing is not complete until after your reporting date, the Consulate General will ask you to send either a new I-20 reflecting a new start date, or a letter from your university permitting you to arrive after the start date listed on your current I-20. If we request a new document, please try and get it to us as quickly as possible.

Please know, though, that the administrative processing may continue after you have submitted updated documents. In addition, sometimes we must hold on to your passport and I-20 before we print your visa, as we cannot issue a visa more than 120 days before the course start date. When the processing is finished, the passport will be returned to you by courier or you will be contacted by the Consulate General.
