Visakhapatnam likely to host IPL matches for Rising Pune

New Delhi, Apr.15 (ANI): After a meeting with representatives of the two affected Indian Premier League franchises, league’s chairman Rajeev Shukla on Friday said Rising Pune Supergiants have selected Visakhapatnam as their alternative home venue.

Shukla, however, said defending champions Mumbai Indians would divulge their decision on Sunday.

The development came in the wake of the High Court’s decision to shift all IPL matches out of drought-hit Maharashtra after April 30.

“We sat with IPL officials and discuss all the pros and cons. Four venues – Raipur, Visakhapatnam, Kanpur and Jaipur were proposed to the franchises board. Mumbai Indians will respond day after tomorrow. But Pune Supergiants have given their preference; they want to play their remaining matches in Vishakhapatnam. So, this is what we have proposed to the governing council,” the BCCI functionary told the media here.

Shukla also said Bangalore would be the likely venue for the final and Qualifier 1, while the Qualifier 2 and the Eliminator might be played in Kolkata.

“As far as play-off matches are concerned. We are proposing to the governing council that first qualifier and final match should be played in Bangalore, while second Qualifier and eliminator should be played in Kolkata,” he added.

Shukla reiterated that the board would also file an appeal before the high court, seeking approval for holding the May 1 match in Maharashtra, as it would be impossible for Rising Pune to shift to a different venue within 24 hours as they host the Gujarat Lions on April 29.

The court’s decision came on a PIL filed by NGO ‘Loksatta Movement’ against hosting of the IPL matches in Maharashtra, which is facing severe water crisis. (ANI)
